My claim to fame

I don't claim to be uber-famous like Kim DrusaVESTsjrkfn but I do have one teensy tiny claim to fame. I met, talked to, and posed for a picture with Kirk Cameron. This is me and my sister about 4 years ago after a taping at Jeremy's TV show. We went to hear Kirk Cameron speak on his new ministry. Afterwards we met Kirk and took a pic with him. I was as giddy as a little school girl and he was just as cute then as he was on all the Teen Beat pictures I had of him on my wall in 8th grade.

I don't even know what was up with my layers there, people...and Bek...I think this may have even been five years ago!

I had just had Isaac when we went. I remember because I had to pump a bottle in the ministry parking lot before the show.

ooohhhh, you go girl! I remember watching a video at school by him on "how to witness"...some of us teachers were doing a Bible study together and this one teacher brought that to watch...needless to say it. was. brutal. Kirk is a sweet guy but he should stick to acting:) Kim, do you remember that video? Oh wait, I don't think you were there that morning...BAD.

Rebekah said...

Oh, I thought his witness video was good. Seriously, I did. I think he does a great job and I love that he is unashamed to profess his witness. Maybe you just got a bad video, he really is good.

OH MY GOSH! HOW have you been keeping this from us? I thought I was going to MARRY Kirk Cameron! I did! Well, either him or Ricky Schroder...it was a toss up but I kind of favored Kirk!

YOU, my two sister friends, are VERY cool! If I were you, I would have this made into a t-shirt and WEAR IT WITH PRIDE! I would. I wouldn't be ashamed. Heck, I, YES I, may even have this picture ironed onto a t-shirt and then get a pic with the 2 sisters and put it right below it. It would be my own "2 degrees of separation" kind of thing. I am sure people would think I was SUPER cool if I did that. They would probably want to touch me too. Bek (yeah, Jenny...I'm stealing it too...I think it is okay), WHAT ELSE have you been keeping from us? GHEESH.

MMMMM....he is still so dreamy....

Sarah said...

Kirk is still soooo dreamy isn't he? I was only three years behind Rebekah...but that was enough for me to be only mildly interested in Kirk but MAJORLY interested in...guess who...give up???...FRED SAVAGE. Yummmm. Now he's the voice of Oswald--the weird octopus on Noggin. I don't think that will win him an appearance on Jeremy's show. Ho hum. Well...that's good for me, though, because it gives me more time to lose some weight in order to become "Fred Savage may become a Christian and get to be on Jeremy's show" worthy.

KJ Druyvesteyn said...

HE IS dreamy...he IS! And, I read a little article on him the other day and he is so dedicated to his faith and to his family which is uber cool too. I tried to watch the "Left Behind" movies but they were a little cheesy...even despite having Kirk.

On a different note, HOW did the show "Growing Pains" ever get the "okay" to have the nickname of a teenage boy "Boner?" HMMM????

And yeah, Fred is cute but too young for me. Sigh. He was just as cute as a button in "The Princess Bride." Seriously.

Seriously, you 2 sisters are SNEAKY...hiding this from us for so long...IF I had ever met Kirk C., that picture would be the background for my blog...

Other famous people the Cowell sisters have met:

Who else, Bek? Everyone join in!

Bek...we must have gotten a cheesy one...it was with the older guy and they were asking people to play Russian Roulette for a million dollars or something like that...it was way cheesy for me anyway...but you know, in the life of faith and Christianity...I honestly feel like I'm the sewer, not the reaper...I plant the seeds rather than see the fruits of my labor...anyway, he's still super cute and KJ's right the Left Behind Movies were AWFUL!

Leesa said...

KJ -- I'm not sure how you've know these two and NOT heard the story of having their picture taken with Kirk Cameron!!

R&S -- you crack me up!

KJ Druyvesteyn said...

Well, I met Imelda Marcos. I have a picture with her somewhere. I don't know if I can post it because my 1990's perm might make me the butt of some jokes and I just don't know if I can hack it.

I also saw Hulk Hogan once but he looked mean so I didn't go up to him. Same thing with Simon Cowell--saw him in the Miami airport and since he scares the #@%# out of me, I didn't approach him. Plus, I don't him to think he is a "celebrity" because in reality, he just a mean old bastard (OOPS!) who got lucky. Really lucky.

Some of my best ones:

-Robert Duvall
-Tim Conway
-Tracey Ullman
-Reggie White
-Merv Griffin
-Marc Summers (host of TV's "Double Dare")
-John Ratzenberger (Cliff!)
-Stephen Baldwin
-Avery Johnson

Sarah said...

KJ may not have a lot to list...but meeting Imelda is my FAVORITE!!!!

pink is the new black said...

Seriously...KJ's is the most significant in terms of world changing and such...but I have to say that Robert Duvall is a favorite of mine for sure...let's see...here's my list:
Fred Savage (oh wait, that's Seth...people said he looked like him when he was younger)
OK, for reals:
Dame Maggie Smith
saw Randy Travis in the airport
saw Vince Vaughn in Wilmington, NC
ok, that's it...thought I would have more but I just don't...too bad...oh wait!!
Diego on the Go Diego Go Tour! One of the actors who played him was in school with my at UNCG...ok, that's better.

Whoa. I don't know how I missed this whole trail. First: I had a huge crush on Kirk C. but not nearly as big a crush as KJ...you are cracking me up girl!

Famous people I've met...
- I sat next to Rod Stewart at Rent in New York. He left during intermission. Jerk.
- I stayed at the Plaza Hotel in New York when Donald Trump was marrying Marla Maples there. We never saw them, but the hotel was crazy with all the security and activity and stuff so I felt like a celebrity.
- My former boss is Campbell Brown's sister. I met her once (Campbell Brown used to host the Today Show on the weekends)
- I had my picture taken with Morgan Freeman at a restaurant he owns in Mississippi.
- I got to go to a fundraiser for Katrina for my job and I met the whole cast of Designing Women (LOVE THEM!!), Jason Alexander, Sela Ward and the incredibly annoying Rita Crosby and her fiance who looked just like a waiter and so we kept asking him for drinks and it turned out he was her fiance. And this is funny: Rob and I were at the VIP reception for donors (b/c my company was a donor) and we were just sitting in a corner and the Mom from Everybody Loves Raymond, Doris Roberts, came over and asked if she could sit with us. We were like "sure!" and thought we must be so cool. Well, the lady would not stop talking. She talked non-stop about herself, her grandkids, etc, etc. We finally had to make up an excuse to get up and leave. It was crazy. She's probably still sitting there talking.

I guess that's it!

I want to know what show Jeremy works on!

The Robertson Family said...

Oh yeah -- totally forgot -- I used to travel a lot for work so I have some crazy stories about famous people on airplanes. But my two best stories must be re-enacted, so I will save those for Saturday.

KJ Druyvesteyn said...

I second that notion for wanting to know what show Jeremy works on...I mean, HE GOT KIRK CAMERON to come on his show. That is huge.

Second, I almost forgot that one night, I saw Mario Lopez (pre Dancing with the Stars fame but he was on that show, UGH...what is the name of it--the male equivalent of "The View") at a club. I had gone dancing with my friend (it was a 3 story place) and I saw him on the 1st floor and I was on the 3rd and I went RACING down to the first floor but when I got there, he was already talking to a size 0 blonde. WHATEVER. I really wanted to go over and say hi (EVEN THOUGH he was a cheating scoundrel and a WEASEL) but I only got to talk to Danny Bonaduce (sp?).

I would STILL be walking on clouds though if I had my pic with KIRK C. Did you ever wash your hand that shook his? I wouldn't. Remember that Brady Bunch where Marcia gets a kiss on the cheek from Davey Jones (I think?). She says she is never gonna wash it? I would be the same way for Kirk. Or JBJ--polar opposites, I know.

It's interesting to read everyone's lists of famous encounters! I can't wait for Sarah's six-degrees blog.

OK, after some thought, here's the very, very short list of famous people I've met:

Zach Braff
Anne Dudek (most recently on "House")
Kate Shindle (Miss America 1998)
Charles Gibson

Kirstie Alley has a home in my neighborhood, but I've not yet run into her about town.

That about sums it up.

Rebekah said...

Leesa (for those of you not in the know, Leesa is a dear friend of mine from high school), didn't you go to college with Zach Braff?

Sarah said...

YOU MET ZACH BRAFF!?!?!?!?!?!???

Sarah said...

Did anyone else go, "Waaaa, Waaaa, Waaaaa" (muted trumpet sound) as they read Jenny's and then reflect on their own lame list? :c)

emily said...

My list is pretty small as well:

Jerry Springer (in an airport - not as a guest on his show thank you very much..)
John Elway (shopping with his wife in Denver?)
Peter Garrett (vocalist for Midnight Oil - frequented a coffee shop near our house in Melbourne)
Lorne Michaels (Sat. night live producer) at the Vietnam War Memorial in D.C. when I was younger.

Leesa - I did run into Kirstie Alley a couple of months ago as she headed into a restaurant on Douglas. She looked awful - like straight out of a "celebrities without makeup" expose on a supermarket tabloid cover. I guess not all of the stories are made up.

Leesa said...

Sarah & Rebekah - yes, I did go to college with the illustrious Mr. Braff. I even worked on a couple of student-run theatre productions with him. Crazy!

Em - very interesting regarding Ms. Alley. Not surprising, though. I've heard similar reports.

Oh, I almost forgot. For those of you who still watch Grey's Anatomy, I've met Lauren Stamile. She plays a recent character - Nurse Rose - who gets to smooch McDreamy.

And that exhausts my list of celebrity encounters...

Rebekah said...

On a side note, I just realized that the majority of my friends were all in theater in high school or college--except me. weird.

pink is the new black said...

Didn't you do theatre in high school though Bek? Seems like I remember a story about it...yeah, after Jenny's list, I suck...Oh yeah, I forgot...Ross Perot...does that help my list at all? Didn't think so:)Can't wait for the Jenny re-enactment on Saturday!!!

pink is the new black said...

Bek, tell me how to fix my "favorites" to show the newest post title below the link to the blog...I don't know how to do that!!!

Sarah said...

Bek--tell me, too. Or better yet, do it for me. I'll give you my password.

Rebekah said...

when you do the blogroll, choose the little box that says "title of latest entry" and then "in order of last updated" or something like that.

Sarah said...

Just did it, dude.

Rebekah said...

gnarly, dude

Chris said...

Poney,

You forgot the most famous person you met. Laura Bush!!!

Rebekah said...

That's right! I toured Laura Bush around the new women's shelter in Arlington when it opened. It was pretty cool---the Texas Rangers (police, not baseball) were there as protection and I got to meet them.

Sarah said...

Rebekah (or Hot Bek as I like to call yoiu),

I have this picture hanging on the wall of my bedroom right by my bed. I think about your kindness towards me all the time.

Sincerely,
Kirk
